Sales
I normally build the Ironbridge style of coracle, like the one
in the picture. They are constructed from ash laths,
covered with calico and painted with bitumastic paint. The
usual dimensions are about 54" long, 44" wide and
14" deep. Weight is about 30 lbs.
A completed coracle will cost you £299, plus delivery.
It comes with a paddle, so you won't be up the creek.
I must point out that coracles are not covered by the
EC Recreation Craft Directive on small boat safety. They
are intended for use on calm, sheltered waters.
Atlantic crossings are not recommended!
Courses
Many people prefer to build their own coracle. It's fairly
straightforward. If you can use a hammer, you can build a
coracle. The easiest way to do this is to go on a coracle
making course. On a two day course, you complete all the
technical stuff, then do the painting and finishing off at
home. A three day course allows time to do the whole
process.
See the calendar page for dates and venues of courses.
If you can't make it to a course, I can sell you a set of
building instructions for £5.
